Dick and I fished my favorite waterway yesterday evening.

Dick used a fly he called a Mepps Spinner
Lots of silver tinsel flash. All his buds made fun of
it and said it wouldn't catch diddle.

His buds were wrong about the the fly
    It produced.

I caught quite a few trout

My biggest of the day will come later when Dick sends it to me.

We hit three different waterways today.
Approximately the 4th cast of the day Andy
caught his personal best brookie. Tried for
a close up when Andy was through netting
it but it decided it didn't want its photo
taken. We both estimate the male brookie
at 15 inches. Caught on Lite Brite Biot Nymph.

The second stream was hard sledding. Sunny
    only a couple trout.

Third stream was the charm. I scored this very
nice brown from a very small stream.

Andy caught a double on a Hopper with Lite Brite Biot Nymph dropper.

The day ended with Andy showing me his pet female brookie
    No stretching it...19 inch minimum.

    Rough count of day's results

    40 to hand for Andy
    25 to hand for me.

Not bad for a sunny day.

Thank you Andy for ALL the flies you tied
    for Coach Knight.

    First Hole Of The Day

    First Trout Of The Day

    Last trout of the day

Was out for 2 hours landed a dozen trout.

They ranged in size from 12 inches to 20 inches approximately.

Friend (Dave Fowler) and I fished tiny stream just north of where I live.

Dave used a bead headed nymph he made and a thin mint bugger

Dave landed 20 trout and had another 15 get off before to hand

I followed Dave and landed 15. It was a good day.

Above trout from yesterday when I
was with Mark. Darkness and digital
    cameras don't mix well.

The phone rang at 7:30am this morning.

Mark went out on his own
    this morning. I told him
    where an absolute monster lived.

Mark emailed me on his blackberry also.

Big one hit 630. Believe it is the fish. Looked like three feet long and broad. Hit like a bolt of lightning . Reel sang. Fish bolted upstream to left side. Then back center. Then back up to the far right shore . Fish burrowed in shallow rocks. Half out of water. Dorsal fin and tail fin sticking out. I applied pressure and so did fish. Snap went the line. Either teeth cut line or wrapped around rocks or knot at hook failed, I'm not sure. Never ever had a trout that big on the line. Heart raced and sick to my stomach the whole time, especially after the line popped.

    Went out at midday.
    Couldn't pry myself out
of bed this morning. Was really
sunny and trout were fussy. Landed
13 in 2.5 hours. They ranged from 12 to 17 inches.

All trout were in structure or tight to the opposite bank the sun was on. A few hoppers coming off.

I like to smoke a load of trout each year and today
i was working on the 12 trout that it takes to fill my
    smoker.

It was hot and I hit areas that had small streams emptying in.

The weeds were terrible and tripped me every other step.
The bugs were ok due to windy weather.

I was way tired at the end of 4 hours of fishing.

My limit for a day in Wisconsin is three no matter the size.

There are three in the freezer waiting to be smoked.

Have seen many people talk about night fishing and what you use and what type of light to use and when NOT to use a light. I have an odd spin to the topic. Last night while stocking the Biggest Trout I have ever seen I caught a respectable 18-19 male brown.

I thought to myself...."Should I turn on my head lamp to unhook this trout?" I decided it was not a good idea. The big girl would be spooked by the light. The forceps are kinda clumsily in this kind of light...."I will just just my fingers to open the mouth and unhook this trout.

I have done this many times ....but NEVER at night.

So I am in a hurry to unhook this on the large side male brown. I am trying to get the jaws open and it is refusing to play with me. I readjust my grip and try again. The trout goes ballistic and the next thing you know my right hand is in severe pain. The trout opened it mouth alright and bit down on two of my fingers and my right thumb.

I decided it is time to turn on my headlamp with my only free hand and low and behold. This male brown has teeth like and alligator and it has three of my fingers in its mouth. I swear..."The trout almost looked like it was grinning at me."

I grabbed my forceps and tried to get its mouth open with no luck. I used my left hand thumb and index finger to pry out my right hand. It bit my left index finger for good measures when i go out the hook with the forceps.

This sounds like it took for ever but it happened in a matter of seconds. No photo of that beast...my fingers were bloody from the bites. Didn't want to mess up my camera.

    20 hours later my hands.

ALL of the nicks and bites on my hands were not there before the unwise choice of not using a light to unhook a alligator toothed brown.

The photo was taken yesterday by me but could have easily been taken
